Training A Puppy

I feel like not everyone knows how to train their puppy, or how to start. So since I’m experienced with having a dog, I’ve decided to share how I’ve accomplished this. Key is patience, always.

If you are looking forward into owning a new puppy or you’re just getting started, this blog post is for you.

TO SIT

You’re going to need dog treats for every time you train them, as an award for every command they’ve succeeded to obey. Do not force them to do anything, and simply be patient with them.

While having your little puppy in front of you, Sitting on the ground to get a lower position is best to feel more comfortable, and easy to train. You’re going to want to hold on to a dog treat and attract him/her with it. Raise the treat high up enough for your puppy to stand, and try to command your puppy to sit, then lower the treats lower but not the point your puppy can snatch the treat, but she or he gets the position to sit.

Do not reward unless your puppy has learned to obey your command.

You might have to repeat the process over and again. This might take some time, because your puppy is processing what he or she needs to do, to be able to deserve the delicious treat.

When he or she has learned to sit, reward him or her and say “good girl/boy”. Repeat the process all over again so that your puppy has accomplished how to sit when commanded.

To Lie Down

The way that I’ve achieve this was to have Lucky on the edge of my bed or the sofa, and basically pull out the treats holding it, and rise the treat up, and then down lower than the sofa, but not to the point that she’s intentionally going to jump off to the ground.

I know that some people aren’t okay to let their dogs on their mattresses, and prefer to take this type of action on the ground, so that’s fine as well.

But, continuing to the steps, ’d command her to lie down, and it obviously takes patience at first, but don’t ever force your puppy, and let her or him learn on their own, the same you’d want a baby to learn how to walk, and talk.

When she or he has lie down for the first time reward with the treat, and say something positive like “good boy/girl” because let your puppy know that she or he is doing something right, and repeat the training session.

Shake/Paw/Highfive etc…

In order for this to be accomplished, your puppy is most likely going to sit, and then will give her/his paw. So you might want to accomplish training how to sit, and lie down, because she/he will do it both ways.

You’re gonna want to sit with your puppy, and simply show your puppy the treat and hide it behind your back with one hand, and the other hand is going to be in front of your puppy, open, as if your holding something. You’re going to command him or her to either “shake”, “paw”, “high-five”, whichever you prefer, and maybe even tap her left or right paw so she/he gets the hint for achieving the goal. Make sure the command is repeated as well. The moment he or she gets it, reward with the treat, and say “good boy/girl!”

Thanks for reading some basic training for learning how to train a puppy. Good luck!

      1. I am changing to siteground as host and it has been a nightmare. I don’t know what I am going to do. I thought it would give me the capabilities of plugins and it looks like that isn’t the case it’s a mess. I will try the site you shared to see what will happen. Thanks for your patience.

      2. It’s been going on for 3 days now. I have about 12 posts and all my fb,instagram, pinterest and all that set up I did this because of a suggestion that siteground is so great. But if you are someone that knows your stuff it might be. But for me I am getting nothing accomplished. I am going to give it one more day and then I am going to cancel with siteground and forget it. Although now wordpress has exported my files so I don’t know. Asking Jesus to help me. Thank you!
